Will GLP-1 medication affect my contraception?

This is possible, particularly if you're using oral contraception and experience vomiting, nausea, or diarrhoea, as this can affect how well the pill is absorbed. For this reason, a non-oral method (such as condoms) or long-acting reversible contraception (such as coils, implants, or injections) is recommended while taking GLP-1 medications.

  • For Mounjaro users:

    • Use a backup method (like condoms) for 4 weeks after starting or increasing the dose.

  • For Wegovy users:

    • No backup method is needed unless you have symptoms that affect absorption.

🧠 What should I do next?

  • Talk to your healthcare provider if you use oral contraception

  • Let them know you're starting or using a GLP-1 medication.

  • They’ll help you stay safe and make any needed adjustments.
