However, children have a higher carbohydrate requirement due to their growth and development needs. Ideally, children require 6 servings of carbohydrates per day, which can be achieved by having 1-2 servings of carbohydrates per meal.
Remember, your child's portion sizes will be smaller than your own, so an easy way to measure this is to use their fist as a guide. Ask them to make a fist and then match this size to the portion of carbohydrates on their plate.
You can use the plate model guide for yourself, and aim for a quarter of your plate to be made up of complex carbohydrates.
