Using the Meal planner tool

Keep your nutrition on track

The Meal Planner tool helps keep your nutrition on track by ensuring you have healthy meal options ready to go throughout the week.

The Meal planner will auto-generate a meal plan for you when you first begin the Second Nature programme and will be visible for you on your 'Home' page when you first login.

The auto-generation tool doesn't yet take into account dietary preferences; this feature is being built into the app and will be available soon.

You'll be able to edit your meal plan to suit your preferences by tapping a recipe in the meal plan that you'd like to replace and adding a Second Nature recipe, or a recipe of your own.

Access your Meal planner from the 'Home' page

To access your Meal planner from your 'Home' page, select 'View full meal plan' to the right of 'Today's meal plan':

  1. Select the 'Toolbox' icon from the bottom toolbar in-app

  2. Select 'Meal planner'

Edit your meal plan

To edit your meal plan:

  1. Open your meal plan from your 'Home' page following the instructions above, skip to step 4 below
    ​OR select the 'Toolbox' icon from the bottom toolbar in-app

  2. Scroll down to select the 'Meal planner' tool

  3. Select the current week's meal plan

  4. Tap on any recipe you'd like to change

  5. Select the red 'Remove from meal plan' button

  6. Tap on the grey square for the particular day and meal you'd like to replace, and select 'Add a Second Nature recipe', 'Add your own recipe', or 'Add from my history'

Any of your own added recipes will be stored for future use under 'Add from my history'.

Create a new meal plan

Select the 'Toolbox' icon from the bottom toolbar in-app:

Scroll down and select the 'Meal planner' tool:

Select 'Start a new meal plan':

Select the Monday of the week you'd like to create the meal plan for and press 'Confirm':

Select the grey square where you'd like to add your first meal (you can choose a meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day):

Choose to 'Add a Second Nature recipe', 'Add your own recipe' or 'Add from my history':

Add a Second Nature Recipe: takes you to the Recipes catalog where you can search recipes. Tap the blue '+' sign to the right of the recipe title to add the recipe to your week's meal plan:

Add your own recipe: create a meal name, add a picture if you like, and signify the number of complex carb portions per serving. Select 'Save to meal plan' at the bottom of the screen to add the meal to your Meal planner.

Once you've added your own recipe to the meal planner, it will save in your 'Meal history' for future use.

Delete a meal from your meal planner

Tap the recipe you want to remove:

Tap the red 'Remove from meal plan' button at the bottom of the screen:

App-generated meal plans

Tap the 'Plan my week' button above your meal plan:

The app will auto-fill your week's plan with recipes from the Second Nature recipe catalog.

If you don't like the plan, tap 'Re-plan my week' at the top of the screen:

To replace a meal:

  • Tap the meal you'd like to replace

  • Select the red 'Remove from meal plan' button at the bottom of the screen

  • Return to the meal plan and tap the empty grey square

  • Choose 'Add a Second Nature recipe', 'Add your own recipe', or 'Add from my history'

  • Save the new recipe to your meal plan

If you've created your own meal plan, but have a few meals left empty, tap 'Plan my week' and 'Fill in missing meals'. The app will auto-fill the empty meals with Second Nature recipes to complete your week's plan.

Add meals from your meal planner to your food diary

Select a meal from your week's meal plan and tap the blue 'I ate this! Log in my food diary' button:

A green banner at the top of your screen confirms the meal's been added to your Food diary.

A circled checkmark will appear on the meals that have already been added to your Food diary:

Print your meal plan

Select the 'Print' button at the top of the meal planner screen just below the date range to print your meal plan from your phone:

Share your meal plan

Select the 'Share' button at the top of the meal planner screen just below the title date range:

Use this feature to email yourself your meal plan to print, or to share with family or friends who may be eating with you during the week.

Create a shopping list

This article details how to create a shopping list from your meal plan.

Delete your meal plan

To delete a week's meal plan from the app, press 'Delete plan' below the title date range:

Press 'Confirm':
